DIVERSE
The most famous African-American in Star Wars lore is absolutely Billy Dee Williams. Well known is the fact that Williams played Lando Calrissian in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Lesser known is the fact that he was considered – before Harrison Ford – for the role of Han Solo.
Soon, however, he might not be the most famous African-American in the Star Wars saga. That distinction may be bestowed on John Boyega who plays a character named Finn in The Force Awakens. Star Wars has been criticized for its lack of diversity. Opening the teaser trailer with Boyega may be something of a statement, and a good one at that.
