Teachers Are Leaders Quote And Comment Of The Week – January 20 – January 25, 2015

Weekly during the 2014-2015 school year, And There Came A Day will begin the week with a quote and quick thought about Ignatian Education.

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

~  Martin Luther King, JR

Saint Ignatius would have loved this quote from Dr. King. Leaders and teachers are well advised to consider King’s words here because it is easy to become silent about things that matter. It’s easy to conveniently forget the things that matter or to elevate things that don’t really matter to prominence in our minds. Our students notice. Our colleagues notice. Those we lead notice. It is incumbent upon leaders – and teacher are leaders – to not only maintain our focus on what matters, but also to speak about and live about those things. Otherwise, our lives lose meaning.

How can one lead from a place of no meaning?
