“AREN’T YOU A LITTLE TOO FEMININE FOR A STORMTROOPER?”
Don’t misunderstand the above quote… I am paraphrasing Princess Leia’s famous “aren’t you a little short for a stormtrooper” line to make a point. Get ready for the first female stormtrooper in Star Wars history!
From The Telegraph comes this piece by Rachel Hawkes (and I am completely AGAINST plot spoilers – I promise this doesn’t give away anything about The Force Awakens):
“JJ Abrams’s forthcoming Star Wars: The Force Awakens will feature the franchise’s first female stormtrooper, according to the latest internet rumours.
The news was broken by BBC entertainment journalist Lizo Mzimba, who tweeted that the little-known British actress and model Amybeth Hargreaves had been cast as one of the imperial soldiers. Mzimba also tweeted a link to his source for the news: the movie casting website Spotlight.
In the original Star Wars films, the stormtroopers are the army of the evil Empire, and are dressed in distinctive all-white body armour. Back in September, the cinema blog Indie Revolver reported that Abrams’s film would feature a never-before-seen chrome stormtrooper, part of an “elite guard” connected to the film’s main villain.
It was later rumoured that the Stormtrooper would be named Captain Phasma, and would be played by 6ft 3in Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie. Several commenters, including Mzimba, have suggested that Hargreaves may be playing Christie’s stunt double. Hargreaves, pictured below, is reported to be 6 feet tall.
To date, the name of the character that Christie will be playing in Star Wars remains unconfirmed.”
