Marvel Films doesn’t own the rights to all the characters in the Marvel Comics universe. They famously don’t own the rights to make movies about Spider-Man and The X-Men. Less famously, they also don’t own the rights to the first superhero team to appear in Marvel Comics in 1961: The Fantastic Four.
20th Century Fox has those rights and they made to Fantastic Four movies in the early 2000’s which were… less than fantastic.
Now, the are trying again. Very little is known about the project other than it’s contemporary, it’s a complete reboot, it features some very interesting casting and it’s coming in August.
The Hollywood Reporter analyzed the trailer comparing its tone and what content could be gleaned from a 2 minute reel to the original iteration of the superhero team in the comics and found plenty to be excited about. You can read that take HERE.
