Counting down the 215 days until The Force Awakens on December 18, 2015.

In the days leading up to Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, And There Came A Day will present links, images, videos, art, memories, laughs, theories and thoughts leading up to the big day… which happens to be on my birthday!  ENJOY and may the Force be with you, always… or at least until 12.18.15!

IT’S NOT EASY BEING PURPLE … ER… GREEN

Anyone with a passing familiarity with this Countdown (or with me!) knows I HATE spoilers. I don’t like to know what’s coming in a movie before I see it and I actively avoid anything reeking of being a spoiler so much so that I stop watching television commercialism and reading magazine stories weeks before a movie’s release date.

I can trace exactly when my aversion to spoilers began. When I was a kid, weeks before the release of The Empire Strikes Back, I bought a comic book adaptation of the movie that ruined EVERYTHING. The adaptation was spot on, revealing Darth Vader as Luke Skywalker’s father, Han and Leia’s romance and Luke’s hand amputation.

The offending adaptation…

What they got wrong, though, was Yoda! Artist Al Williamson based his art on early production notes that had Yoda looking … well, purple! You can see this was corrected for reprints of the book, but I was a proud owner of the original edition. And, because I read it, the ONLY thing that surprised me about The Empire Strikes Back was Yoda… he wasn’t purple!
