Counting down the 209 days until The Force Awakens on December 18, 2015.
In the days leading up to Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, And There Came A Day will present links, images, videos, art, memories, laughs, theories and thoughts leading up to the big day… which happens to be on my birthday! ENJOY and may the Force be with you, always… or at least until 12.18.15!
There are, literally, thousands of Star Wars toys today with many, many more to come when The Force Awakens hits theaters in December. But, believe it or not, there was a time when there were no Star Wars toys, just a company – Kenner – with a license to produce them and a scheme to sell empty boxes to the public until the figures were in stores.
The so-called “Empty Box” campaign didn’t sell particularly well (I didn’t have one, did you?) but the boxes kept Star Wars on the minds of the toy buying public throughout 1977 until toys populated shelves in 1978.
One could send away for an empty box which included a cardboard display stand for figures which had yet to be manufactured! The figures were mailed later.
Pretty shrewd move.
