In the days leading up to Star Wars Episode VII: The Force Awakens, And There Came A Day will present links, images, videos, art, memories, laughs, theories and thoughts leading up to the big day… which happens to be on my birthday!  ENJOY and may the Force be with you, always… or at least until 12.18.15!

IT WOULD HAVE BEEN THRILLING

I am not sure why this piece of information has surfaced in recent days, but it’s a good one! When The Phantom Menace was in pre-production, George Lucas was being lobbied very, very hard by a singer who very much wanted a role in the movie. In fact, this singer knew what role he wanted: Jar Jar Binks.

The singer? Michael Jackson.

It's not as crazy as it sounds. Jackson and Lucas had worked on the Disney attraction "Captain EO."

It’s not as crazy as it sounds. Jackson and Lucas had worked on the Disney attraction “Captain EO.”

That’s right, the King of Pop wanted to play arguably the most reviled character in Star Wars history.

Now that would have been thrilling.

The character was actually played by Ahmed Best on set before CGI took over to create the undeniably devisive Jar Jar Binks. It’s hard to blame Best for the character’s failure. It’s easy to blame Lucas.

You can read a full account of the almost casting from Rolling Stone HERE.
