IS THAT REALLY PRACTICAL?
One of the biggest excitements surrounding The Force Awakens is that JJ Abrams has had it very, very clear that this movie features a huge amount of practical effects. He’s not contending that there is no CGI in the movie, just that an emphasis was put on doing things “in camera,” as it were. And, while he didn’t suggest this is to distinguish his film from George Lucas’ prequels, many fans, claiming of form-over-substances in the Episodes I, II and III have surely taken it that way.
Well, prepare to be shocked… (I’m always pleased to learn something about Star Wars that I didn’t know!) THERE WERE MORE PRACTICAL MODELS BUILT FOR THE PREQUELS THAN FOR ANY OF THE ORIGINAL TRILOGY FILMS!
