FAVORITE ORIGINAL TRILOGY CHARACTERS

NUMBER 2

 Luke Skywalker

LUKE SKYWALKER

We have to love Luke, right? Of all the characters in the original trilogy, he undergoes the most growth, is the most dynamic and is at the heart of the story. Let me be honest: I do love Luke. I love his petulance about Toshi Station, I love his enthusiasm in the Millennium Falcon turret guns, I love his agony when confronted with the truth about Darth Vader and I love his knowing stare off into the distance at the end of Return of the Jedi.

From farm boy to Jedi Knight, Luke has some wonderful moments in the three films, perhaps none better than his declaration in Return of the Jedi: “I will not fight you.” Though I have one more spot on this list for my favorite character, I am aware that it is Luke who really drives the Star Wars trilogy, Luke who makes it all happen and Luke who may well be at the center of the new Star Wars trilogy as well.

It doesn’t hurt my love of Luke that Mark Hamill seems like such a cool (albeit crazy) guy.

The son of Skywalker became a Jedi. And the world was better for it.
