  • Naomie Harris – Moonlight
  • Nicole Kidman Lion
  • Octavia Spencer – Hidden Figures

WHO WILL WIN

Viola Davis – Fences

Viola Davis is truly remarkable. She turns in brilliant performance after brilliant performance and she leaves an indelible impression on all the films she’s in (including last summer’s much maligned Suicide Squad). She is one of the greatest actors of this generation. Davis has already set a record (and it is very hard and says something not great about culture) as the only African American actress to ever receive 3 acting nominations. She’s going to get the win.

WHO I WOULD LIKE TO SEE WIN

Viola Davis – Fences

See above. Though I loved all of the other performances, Davis’ work is far-and-away better, more breathtaking and deserving of a win this year. But WHAT A FIELD! By any account, these nominees are truly terrific.
